It is all too easy for your finances to suffer when your health is doing the same. Whether it is surgery, medications, or treatments, the medical world comes with a large bill. We put a certain amount of faith in the medical industry, assuming that we can rely on them to mend our health quickly, to limit our expenses. This isn’t always the case, however, and in the event that something does go wrong, you’re left to pay the bill. One of the most prime examples of this involves medical devices, and the flaws that can devastate the recipient.

In recent news, you may have heard of a DePuy as lawsuit. In the case of this Johnson and Johnson division company, DePuy Orthopedics, there is a critical design flaw in their ASR Hip Implant Devices which lead to a global recall. Ninety three thousand patients who received these implants are at risk of damages caused by this faulty implant. Many cases have already been reported of rejection, side affects, and consumer report complaint regarding the device. All of these patients will now need to receive additional care, regardless of the state of the device. If it seems to be functioning, additional tests and treatments might be required to assure it’s safety. If symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, infection, pain, and damage to the bone and tissue have arisen, further revision surgery will be required. One of these recipients has filed a suit, after receiving two of these medical devices, and eventually needing surgery to remove one. After suffering from the above side affects, he had the replacement removed during surgery, and is now immobile while he waits for a replacement. Besides the initial costs of the surgery, replacement device, and other medical care he will need to receive, he is also unable to work. These factors all contribute to financial hardships, which have driven many lawsuits against the Johnson and Johnson company.
