Health Exam for Life Insurance

For different types and amounts of insurance, the rules vary from company to company concerning and doctor exam in order to buy life insurance.   Generally, no exam would be needed for a very small amount of insurance or even group plans although underwriters need to examine and collect medical information on most new customers.  This is done in order to properly classify the level of risk and set the appropriate premium charge.
The first requirement is usually questions about the health of the applicant and this will determine if a physical examination will be needed.  The company should arrange a convenient time and place for you to meet the doctor at no charge to you, it an exam in required.  Unless a large amount of insurance is applied for, the exam will have basic medical tests and history.
Life insurance is sometimes sold claiming no physical exam is necessary. You can see these adds in newspapers or magazines. These policies may be limited to small sums and the company will have a year or two in which they can modify or even cancel the policy if the applicant omitted relevant medical problems. These plans are often to supplement other coverage and so not provide the basic insurance.
